Abidal has tumour in liver

Just heard the horrific news about Eric Abidal. He is reported to have a tumour in his liver and he will undergo surgery on Friday. At the moment there is no other news as to whether it could be life threatening or not though it seems certain that he will miss the rest of the season. We can only wish him all the best and hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.

Heard about earlier dampened my mood, I checked on goal and this was posted:
“According to the doctor, the operation of Abidal would be a routine operation and he could be back in 4 to 6 weeks”

    Can someone confirm this?
    I hope he recovers fully.

I’ve enjoyed watching him play more during this season than any other. Whether he’s out for a few weeks or the whole season he will definitely be missed, but it’s important to remember football is just a game and this is his life. I hope he pulls through even if Barca’s defense suffers as a result, and that he takes all the time he needs.

apparently the surgery has been moved to thursday now. its not the surgery that is the concern, but the tumor found in the liver. on thursday they will also test whether it is malignant or benign, ie, cancerous or not. thats the major concern. man, i was so sad and shocked when i read this.

this made my stomach turn. I can’t believe something so random would be brought to attention now of all the times it could have been brought to attention. Abidal has been at his best lately and now he will have to deal with this set back. I’m so sad, I hope he is able to fully recover as if it never happened, but am terrified that he will never be the same with him being 31 going 32 in September =[

  7. barcacentralomer says:

Wishing him a full recovery and like someone rightly said, he should take all the time he needs to recover irrespective of whatever effect it has on Barca’s football season.

My thoughts and prayers [like everyone who’s heard about this matter] go out to Abidal and his family in this trying time. Hope you knock this tumour out like you’ve been proving me and countless other doubters wrong with your terrific performances on the pitch. Go Abidal!

Yes indeed, it is very sad sad news. I wonder how his teammates will cope with his absence. What are they feeling right now? I’m hoping for a speedy speedy recovery. Get well soon Abidal, we will miss you very much !

So it’s time now for Pique to step up his game now. I hope to see our captain soon on the field. Pique neeeeeeeeeds him.

A classy gesture is welcome in the sometimes nasty battle that goes, mainly in the media admittedly, between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, so I would like to salute the Madrid players for showing their support to Abidal tonight. To go with a pretty good game from their part, must be said.
    Get well big man!

What an unpleasant news. He’s currently relishin’ his best season as a footballer and almost out of the blue, a liver tumor rears an ugly threat. But YOU CAN (!!!) beat this ABIDALTASAR, just like every other obstacle you’ve courageously conquered in the past. Sure, you have EARNED the prayers of every sane being — fans, mates, footballers and coaches alike. Even our archrival (Madrid) are SOLIDLY behind you and your family on this one. Your family, your country, your fans, and lastly FCBarcelona all want you back — BETTER & STRONGER. Wishing you a hitch-free surgery. Get well soonest.

    Visca Your Majesty!!!
    Força Rey Abidal!!!
