Preview – Shakhtar vs Barcelona

Tuesday night we play in Donetsk in the 2nd leg of our Champions League quarterfinal.  Seeing as we already have a 5-1 advantage, this game does not have the danger or appeal it may have had with a tighter result last week.  Pep will never let us have our guard down and tonight will be no different as Shakhtar have nothing to lose, are under no pressure, and can just come at us full force.

Pep called 20 players who will travel Tuesday night, those being at fit first team players as well as B team players Oier, Thiago, and Dos Santos.  The sad news is that Puyol will not travel, which is a worrying sign.  Bojan also cannot travel after his knee injury suffered on the weekend that is going to rule him out for the rest of the season.  Of course there is also no Abidal.  Iniesta also will not play due to the purposeful (let’s not pretend it wasn’t) suspension he picked up at the Camp Nou.  This is the full list of 20 players:

Goalkeeper: Valdés, Oier, Pinto

Defender: Piqué, Maxwell, Adriano, Alves, Milito, Fontàs

Midfield: Xavi, Busquets, , Afellay, Keita, Mascherano, Dos Santos, Thiago

Forwards: Villa Messi, Jeffren, Pedro

The starting 11 could be a few permutations.  Most likely Busquets will drop back to center back with Masch taking up the anchor role.  I expect Keita to start as well considering the type of game and environment we will be in.  I wonder if Pep will have an eye on Saturday and make decisions accordingly.

Shakhtar wise the big news is that captain Srna will not play as he picked up an injury over the weekend.  Maybe Chgy will be fit, maybe not.  Otherwise it should be the Brazilian crew attacking us per normal.

That’s it, a quick preview.  Can’t really think of more to add.  We have to approach this game in a professional fashion and if we do, I can’t see a 4 goal advantage being squandered.   Let’s see how it goes.

I missed Saturday’s game and will miss tomorrow’s, so I’m definitely somewhat out the loop at the moment, but one thought: Mascherano is suspended for the Classico, am I right (at least La Liga Classico)? In which case we’ll need to see either Busquets back in that role or someone else. I therefore wonder whether we’ll see Fontas tomorrow as he can play both CB and DM and so would hope to see him get some first team action before Saturday.

It shall be good for Barcelona in the quarter final returning leg.I need Keita’s performance for confidence against Real Madrid.Good luck to Barca.

Our next target is to focus on our matches agaist Real Madrid in this season. We want their down fall in all.

Our big sharks can still shackle Shakhtar. Maybe they won’t be willin’ to burn excess energy to press for a win (bearin’ the Classicos in mind) but hey, they won’t lose either. Our boys just shouldn’t play complacently.

    SD — 1
    Barça — 2

SD’s a done deal. Sooooo(!!!), let the Classicos begin!!!

    Visca Barça!!!
    Força Barça!!!
