Preview – Barcelona vs Deportivo

Very (very) short preview today.  Tomorrow evening at 9 pm we take on Deportivo at home in nothing match.  Having already been crowned champions during the week and then having a wonderful celebration Friday in Barcelona (do try and check out the video and photos), we don’t really have anything to play for tonight.  The interest in this game and the last versus Malaga will be how much or who is rested for the Champions league final May 28th.  Does he purely want to rest the starters or does he want them to play a bit not to kill any sort of harmony?  It’s actually a very difficult decision for Guardiola.   If things don’t go our way in Wembley, if Pep plays the starters some will say they were tired.  If he didn’t play them, they will say they were out of match practice.

Depor on the other hand find themselves just 3 points from the relegation zone so they have something very real to play for and could tonight an opportunity to attack us when we won’t be at our strongest nor focused.

I agree Bboy. A Catch 22 situation for Pep and Co. I wonder if our third keeper [Oier if I’m not mistaken] in the CL is going to get a game as Pinto is suspended and he might as well get a taste of the action even though I hope he’s not required in the final. Of course he were injured in these games we’d have no backup keeper in the final.

Perhaps the first choice defenders like Alves ,Pique,Puyol and Abidal can be rested from the starting XI for these two games as these 4 are either recovering from injury/overworked and a rest might protect them from further injury/fatigue. Maxwell,Adriano, Milito , Masch [subject to their fitness levels] and/or the youngsters like Fontas and Bartra should be utilised as starters for these final fixtures.

The midfield trio of Busi, Xavi and Iniesta could also do with some rest and brought on as subs later on in these two matches. Thiago and Keita seem reasonable enough to be given a starting role with Masch brought further ahead from his makeshift CB role.

Messi won’t want to drop to the bench even if it is for his and Barca’s good but as a Barca fan I’d want him to fresh and raring to go for the final. Villa is not going to recover from his goal drought sitting on the bench and I’d want him to play both these matches even if he is subbed later on. Not sure if Pedro’s fully recovered from his injury so thats another tricky one but surely Afellay and Jeffren are decent if not equivalent backup and they deserve some more playing time.
