Maxwell (Maxwell Scherrer Cabelino Andrade) will join oil wealthy PSG in the coming days after the club gave him permission to negotiate a contract and leave if he so chooses. Maxwell has been a very commendable squad player, and though he will never be remembered as the greatest player of this team, when I look back on old photos or matches I will remember him with fondness. Not everyone can be Messi or Xavi, for a team to be truly successful over several seasons, squad players are vital to come in when needed, be fully prepared, and then perform with total commitment. Maxwell did that, much like Keita, and he did it rather well
He joined us from Inter in July 2009. Not to toot my own horn, but I had suggested him months earlier as a good signing due to his availability and versatility. We got him for just 4.5 million Euros, as Mourinho had deemed him totally unnecessary, going rather for the youngster Santon. Of course, being a member of the Pep generation, he has won a lot in his 57 (wikipedia, so not 100% sure) official appearances wearing the blaugrana: 2 leagues, 1 Champions League, 2 UEFA Super Cups, 3 Spanish Super Cups, and 2 FIFA Club World Cups.
Maxwell has now played for Ajax, Inter, Barcelona, and soon PSG. That’s not a bad set of clubs to have behind your name when you hang up the boots. Good bye Maxwell and good luck in PSG. Unlike many that have walked out the Camp Nou, nobody can say they are truly happy you’re gone.
