Esperanza Aguirre and the Copa de España

Politicians are experts at diverting the public’s attention away from the real issues. As Spain moves deeper into economic crisis the President of the Community of Madrid, Esperanza Aguirre has called for Friday’s Copa del Rey Final between Athletic Club and Barça to be played behind closed doors if the Prince of Asturias or the Spanish national anthem are whistled at.

Aguirre declared “I have always believed that in a serious country, when a misdemeanour is being committed against the flag, the national anthem or the head of state, the game should not go ahead”. she referred to the competition as the “Copa de España” and added that the game “cannot become a hostile demonstration against Spain and the Spanish. If the hymn is whistled, the game should be suspended and then played behind closed doors, then you would see how it would not happen again”.

Fortunately, Spain is still a moderately serious country and therefore nobody seems to be taking Aguirre’s suggestion at all seriously. What a f***ing nutter!

Would like to see how this would be enforced…
There are much bigger problems to deal with than the booing of the national anthems…
