Congratulations Bayern

I didn’t want them to win but congratulations to Bayern Munich for coming out on top of a terrific Champions League final tonight. You had to feel sorry for Dortmund who gave everything but in the end it just wasn’t enough to overcome the might of Die Roten.

Arjen Robben is probably the last player I wanted to see score a last minute winner but given his bad luck on the big occasions in the past he probably deserves his moment of glory as he’s a great player. Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Ribery, Müller and the rest can fairly take their place at the helm of European football. Can’t help lamenting that we didn’t sign Javi Martinez last summer.

On the night Dortmund deserved more. Jürgen Klopp had his players tuned in for the job from the first minute and they showed superb attitude, fighting for every ball. Quite a few of the team have been linked to possible offers from Barça. After Hummels, who’ve I liked for a while now, I think Gündogan is the one I’d be most favourable to signing. He’s always shown a variety of qualities but seeing how coolly he took that penalty proves he has the right mentality to succeed on the big stage. Reus and Lewandowski both impressed me again but I have doubts about how they would fit into Barça’s style.

    What a game that was

Likewise I was hoping for an upset win by Dortmund but perhaps it was expecting too much from a team that was already without its best player – Mario Gotze. I like their coach and I think he and his Dortmund side will come back stronger next season.

I’m still not sure about Hummels due to his lack of pace which a Barca defender IMO needs with our playing style. I do however agree that Gundogan could prove to be a very good signing for Barca. Unfortunately I doubt we have the funds to get him this summer. Further, with Busquets,Song and even Mascherano able to operate in the ‘holding’ midfield role, I don’t see how he’d get into the starting line-up anyway.
