Golazo from Neymar

This cheered me up a bit. It’s true I’ve been feeling a bit gloomy about a few things related to Barça but the last 24 hours or so have improved things. First there was Messi’s hat-trick for Argentina against Guatemala last night which suggests he’s not too worried about the taxman and he may be finally over his injury. Then this afternoon Montoya, Bartrá, Thiago and Tello all performed well in Spain’s semi-final win over Norway in the Euro under-21s. Neymar’s golazo in Brazil’s 3-0 win against Japan in the opening game of the Confederations Cup tonight topped the lot.

🙂 Maybe I just needed to see some competitive football. In the last couple of weeks all I’ve seen are the build-up friendly games of Brazil and Spain and quite frankly they were a big yawn. Very much enjoyed the Spain under-21s game and the Brazil-Japan game last night was good too. Neymar had a very good game though most impressive was again Thiago Silva who put in a monster performance at the back. Looks like we’ll never sign him now though.

@Nic: Thaigo Silva’s performance last night = Absolutely Fabulous. I don’t know what we were thinking last summer when we let this topnotch CB slip away. The thing that struck me most about him was his anticipation and reading of the game. I’m not sure but I think Neymar’s spectacular strike was the end product of a handball. I still need to see more of Neymar before I’m convinced it was money well spent. While a lot of the transfer news is usually nonsense, for a club of Barca’s stature to be considering Mathieu as a CB tells us
I’ve been watching Brazil for more than two decades now and it was a strange feeling to see a disappointing Fred lead their attack. With the likes of Careca, Romario, Ronaldo and Luis Fabiano playing upfront for Seleccao over the years, one had grown accustomed to expecting a world class CF amongst their ranks every time Brazil showed up for a major tournament. However it turns out the CF assembly line is out of order for an extended period.
