Victor Valdés had to be substituted in the 75th minute of Spain’s 1-0 defeat against South Africa tonight. The goalkeeper went down injured with the ball nowhere near him and he obviously couldn’t continue. He is reported to have a muscular injury to his right calf muscle though the extend of the injury will not be known until tests are done. If the muscle is torn then he could be out for a few weeks and the first tentative predictions for the recovery time are between three and six weeks. For now the only thing certain seems to be that he will miss Saturday’s game against Granada which will give Jose Manuel Pinto his first chance of the season between the posts.
