The writing was on the wall after the 4-0 defeat at Zaragoza on Saturday and today it has been confirmed that Eusebio Sacristan has been sacked as Barça B’s coach. Jordi Vinyals will move up from coaching the Juvenil A team and his assistant Pep Muñoz will accompany him. Xavier Garcia Pimienta will take over as the Juvenil A coach.
Eusebio took over from Luis Enrique as Barça B coach in 2011. In his first two seasons the B team finished 8th and 9th and then last season the team finished in an impressive third place. However, results this season, including an embarrassing 7-0 defeat at Valladolid, have seen the team drop to 17th in the table just a couple of points above the relegation zone. It is true that this season the B team squad is younger than ever but it is difficult to understand that with talents such as Samper, Adama, Munir, Sandro, Halilovic and Grimaldo to name just some, the team cannot perform better than we have seen this season. I wish Eusebio luck for the future but feel this is probably the right decision. Vinyals worked with many of the same players last season when the Barça won the UEFA Youth League.
