Aleix Vidal passes medical and signs for Barça for five years

Aleix Vidal signs 2015Barça confirmed the signing of Aleix Vidal from Sevilla yesterday for a fee of around €18 million. The player passed his medical this morning and then signed a five-year contract before being presented to the press. Due to FIFA’s transfer ban Vidal can not be registered to play official games for Barça until January 2016.

Aleix Vidal Sevilla 2015The 25-year-old Catalan started the road to a career in football for Barça’s Infantil B team in 2001 where he coincided with Jordi Alba. He played just one season before moving on and as a youngster he also spent time at Real Madrid and Espanyol. He eventually found a first team place for Almeria but it wasn’t until they were promoted in 2013 that he finally made his debut in Primera División two days before his 24th birthday. He played all 38 games for Almeria that season scoring six goals which earned him a move to Sevilla in June 2014 for a fee of €3 million. Originally a right-winger he has been converted into an attacking right-back by Unai Emery and he recently earned his first call-up for the Spanish national team.

It seems obvious that Vidal has been brought in to replace Dani Alves. This morning president Josep Maria Bartomeu confirmed the club will not be making an improved offer to the Brazilian. Bartomeu, who is expected to resign tomorrow in order to begin the election process, also claimed that Luis Enrique will continue. There is still no confirmation from the Barça coach.
