Chelsea beat Barça on penalties

Chelsea Barça 2015Chelsea beat Barça 4-2 on penalties after a closely fought 2-2 draw in Washington. Eden Hazard’s superb goal gave Chelsea a tenth-minute lead but Barça bounced back in the second half with goals from Luis Suárez and Sandro Ramirez only for Chelsea to equalize five minutes from the end with a Gary Cahill header.

Chelsea began the game the stronger side with a Zouma header from a Fabregas free-kick and a low drive from Oscar both forcing early saves from Ter Stegen. Then in the tenth minute Hazard dribbled brilliantly past Rakitic, Douglas and Bartra before beating Ter Stegen to put Chelsea ahead.

Barça’s first decent effort came in the 15th minute when Luis Suárez set up Rakitic to shoot but Coutois palmed the ball away for a corner. Then in the 17th minute Douglas was injured which will see him out for eight weeks and Sergi Roberto came on at right-back. Chelsea continued to look the better team and nearly went further in front when Oscar’s beautifully flighted free-kick bounced out off the crossbar.

Barça improved in the final fifteen minutes of the first half with Luis Suárez causing the Chelsea defence problems. The Uruguayan had two decent efforts well saved by Courtois and then a clever turn and cross provided Rakitic with a golden chance in the 39th minute but the Croatian midfielder sliced his shot wide.

Barça continued to improve in the second half and in the 52nd minute Luis Suárez took advantage of a poor defensive header from Cesar Azpilicueta to scoop a shot past Coutois and two defenders. Zouma’s acrobatic lunge just failed to prevent the ball crossing the line.

Luis Enrique made eight substitutions all in the 59th minute with only Munir, Sandro and Segi Roberto staying on. In the 66th minute Sandro received a pass from Rafinha and cut inside from the left before hitting a beauty that curled inside the far post.

Chelsea pushed for an equalizer with Ramires missing a good chance in the 79th minute. Then in the 85th minute Barça failed to clear a free-kick into the area and Jordi Masip came out to make a punch but only succeeded in bloodying Cahill’s nose as the Chelsea defender looped a header into the empty net.

Halilovic and Piqué both failed to score in the penalty shoot-out while Chelsea converted all four of their shots.

Not a fan of the blue numbers….not a fan of both kits period. Samper is no joke, arguably our best prospect. On the flip side…Douglas.

    I don’t care about friendlies.

Again…. Can somebody pls argue why they don’t think Sandro deserves a starting place in rotation with Suarez?

I see so much of goals in this guy! He deserves more minutes than last season. He really should be playing more. After all we have a crazy load of games this season.

If suarez starts 32 games. I’d like to see Sandro start 18 atleast this season! It’s a gamble worth trying!
